بعد وصول عدد الوفيات الناجمة عن جائحة كوفيد-19 إلى مليون شخص في أنحاء العالم، أكد أمين عام الأمم المتحدة• أنطونيو غوتيريش• أن التغلب على هذه الأزمة ما زال ممكنا، ولكنه دعا إلى التعلم من الأخطاء.
وفي بيان صحفي دعا غوتيريش إلى تذكر كل فرد فقد حياته بسبب كـوفيد-19. وقال إن ألم الفقدان تضاعف بسبب وحشية المرض، إذ حرمت مخاطر العدوى أفراد الأسرة من أن يكونوا بجوار أحبائهم الممددين على فراش المرض، كما أصبح الحداد أو الاحتفاء بالحياة غالبا شبه مستحيل بدون القدرة على توديع الأحبة بالإمساك بأيديهم أو تقبيلهم لآخر مرة.
وأضاف غوتيريش في بيانه "لا تبدو النهاية وشيكة لانتشار فيروس الكورونا، أو لفقدان الوظائف، وتعطل التعليم. بإمكاننا أن نهزم هذا التحدي، ولكن علينا التعلم من الأخطاء".
وفي هذا السياق أكد غوتيريش أهمية القيادة المسؤولة والاسترشاد بالعلم والتمسك بالتعاون، وحذر من خطورة التضليل المعلوماتي الذي يمكن أن يتسبب في مزيد من الوفيات.
" يجب ان نتذكر العدد الكبير من الأرواح التي ف قدت، يجب ألا ننسى أبدا أن مستقبلنا يعتمد على التضامن.والمحبه.والتسامح فنحن شعوب متحدة وأمم متحدة".

After the number of deaths resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic reached one million people around the world, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, stressed that overcoming this crisis is still possible, but he called for learning from mistakes.
In a press release, Guterres called for remembering everyone who lost their life due to COVID-19. He said that the pain of loss was doubled due to the brutality of the disease, as the risks of infection prevented family members from being next to their loved ones lying on their sickbeds, and mourning or celebrating life often became almost impossible without the ability to say goodbye to loved ones by holding their hands or kissing them for the last time.
"The end does not seem imminent for the spread of the Coronavirus, the loss of jobs and the disruption of education. We can defeat this challenge, but we must learn from mistakes," Guterres added in his statement.
In this context, Guterres stressed the importance of responsible leadership, being guided by science and adhering to cooperation, and warned of the danger of misinformation that could cause more deaths.
"We must remember the great number of lives lost, we must never forget that our future depends on solidarity, love, and tolerance, as we are united peoples and nations."
